Building Behaviour Leadership
Meet Keith. An experienced educator specialising in behaviour management, senior leadership, and inclusion…. and a storyteller.
I am also Associate with Adele Bates Education; author of ‘Miss, I Don’t Give a S**t’.
We’ve now co-authored a book for school leaders on behaviour culture. It is currently in production!
Recent Work

Two Day Cluster Event in Norfolk
Day 1: A full day for behaviour leads of nine schools both primary and secondary. We talked about:
– What do we mean by an inclusive behaviour culture?
– How do we demonstrate our inclusive culture with real evidence bases and data sets?
– Re-engaging families with our schools

Two Day Cluster Event in Norfolk
Day 2: A half day workshop for parents and carers to understand and talk about their children’s behaviour. A genuinely heartfelt session based on the principles of ‘open mind and a big heart’.
A safe, non-judgmental space to understand brain function, childhood development with over an hour spent discussing real life situations and scenarios.
A half day workshop for newer teachers across the cluster to get into the nitty gritty of ‘what actually works with behaviour’

Normal For Norfolk
Whilst in Norfolk I also spent two days supporting two different schools I have worked with for over a year. A primary school and a complex needs school. There I watched a variety of classes and individuals and gave feedback to the staff. I also ran a session on writing a behaviour plan that will actually make a difference.
It was a busy week! Here’s some feedback from people involved.
“My ECT and ECT + 2 both loved it…Perfect outcome for any CPD I’d say”
“Feedback from the staff who attended was overwhelmingly positive!”
“Any time spent listening to Keith Bates talk about behaviour is time well spent”

My Services
Consulting
I offer bespoke consultancy services for primary, secondary, post-16, and special education settings. I support multi-academy trusts and local authorities with various issues, including individual or group observations, classroom management, whole school policy, and leadership of culture and ethos. My expertise is in behaviour and SEMH needs, with extensive knowledge of SEN/ALN, including restrictive physical intervention, placement, and the Code of Practice. I also assist schools with conflict resolution involving parents and families.
Training
I design and deliver tailored training in behaviour and SEMH, covering topics such as understanding behaviour, effective behaviour management, communication, emotional load management, and handling difficult conversations with families. I customize training for specific settings and audiences, including senior leaders, teachers, support staff, and non-teaching staff, and have experience delivering these sessions across multiple schools.
Speaking
I offer speaking engagements on various topics related to behaviour and SEMH, similar to those covered in my training sessions. I have presented at Headteacher and Norfolk inclusion conferences, regional SEN/ALN conferences, and to over 400 SENCos. My talks are customized to meet your needs, ensuring they are engaging, challenging, and informative. I provide bespoke, responsive services, working with you to design the necessary activities and approaches to address your specific issues. The support packages are tailored to your requirements.
